The Much Anticipated Story of OFCU Bill Payment (Part II in Our Three Part Journey)

Hopefully at this point you have signed up for and are utilizing our Online Banking service. If not you obviously have not read part one in this series (please check out The Three Part Story of Online Banking, Bill Payment and the E-Statement posted May 21, 2008) or are just happy living in your own little paper world. If you have signed up and are actually using it that is half the battle. You see in order to access this crazy thing we call Bill Payment (you will see what I mean by crazy in a few) you need only to sign into online banking, and have a checking account in good standing with OFCU. That is it. (I know, you are asking yourself right now, “Yeah right, what is the catch? What sort of security do I have to get through? What OTHER password do I need?”) You need nothing else but to fill in the application (so I lied, that wasn’t exactly it, you have to apply the first time but what do you want, we are not mind readers. You have to ask or you will not receive…)

Here is how the process works. You log into the glorious land of E-Branch and you will see an icon entitled “Payment Manager” that you will click and then be presented with several choices of which you will choose (tah dah tah dah) “View and Pay Bills” (surprise surprise). Once you click this icon you will be taken to this crazy thing we call Bill Payment (sort of). The first time you click it you must apply by filling in the application (as I mentioned above, you must ask for what you want). This entails entering your name, address, mother’s maiden name etc., nothing to tough. Once you have completed the info and are satisfied that it is correct you must submit the app.

Now you are ready to… (Wait for it…) pay bills (what did you think I was going to say??)! So you will once again log into the glorious land of E-Branch where you will click on “Payment Manager” and then choose “View and Pay Bills”. At this time you will actually be taken into this crazy thing we call Bill Payment. The first thing you are going to need to do is set up your payees. Don’t be discouraged! This is the toughest thing about this whole process and you only have to do it once. I promise that once you have completed this tedious and torturous task you will never go back to licking envelopes and spending millions of dollars on stamps! Remember this is a FREE service; neither envelopes nor stamps are free! And don’t forget the gas (it CERTAINLY isn’t free!) to get to the post office or to drop off the water bill. Now taking that into consideration you must gather together all of your bills. First you will click on “Payee” and then scroll to the bottom of that screen and click “Add Payee”. Next choose “Add Payee Manually”. You will then be given a form to fill in with the payees address and account info. Take the info right off of your bill to ensure that your payment gets to the correct place. Finally you must enter a nick name. This is the name that the merchant will show up under in your payee list. It can be anything you want. It can be the same as the name in the remittance address or it can be as simple as “Car Payment”. Once you have entered all of the data you must hit submit. You must repeat this process for each merchant that you want to pay. You can set up as many payees as you like. (Whew, glad that is over!)

Now that you have set up your payees you are ready to pay bills. (Did you HEAR me? Ready to pay bills! This is the crazy part…just wait.) You will need to click on “Schedule Payments”. You will be taken to a list of all of the payees that you set up. You simply check the box next to the payee that you want to pay, put in the amount, and the date you want to send the payment. Once you have done this for all of the bills that you want to pay, scroll to the BOTTOM of the page and click “Schedule Payments”. That is it! You just paid your bills in less than five minutes! No gas, no stamps, no envelopes, no walking to the mailbox, no going to the post office, no waiting in line. No nothing! Just click…it is as simple as that. (I know crazy hu? I told you, we call it that for a reason…) I am so confident that you are going to love this product that I will personally give you $5 out of my account if you don’t…just kidding, I don’t have $5 to give all of you but I am that confident that you will love it!

So at midnight, while you are once again watching Bonanza reruns in your underwear (you should really get some sleep) you can pay your bills, all of your bills…and all during one commercial break, crazy. You could never pay your bills in your underwear before (imagine how the lady at the gas company would have looked at you), ahh sweet freedom.
