The Three Part Story of Online Banking, Bill Payment, and the E-Statement

In this great time of technology I think that some people may be overwhelmed with the magnitude of new products and services that are available to them. There are a few people out there who want every new gadget, invention, or electronic service they can get their hands on. Then there is everyone else who is just trying to remember the PIN for their debit card and the password for their email account. Many people believe that adding yet another password to their already hectic lives will most definitely make it even more hectic than it already is. Well I am here to talk about a group of services that will not only save you time, they will allow you to relax, make one less trip to the credit union, one less trip to the mail box, and one less trip to the post office. Sound good? If so please continue, otherwise if you are happy with your hectic existence do not continue, I would hate for you to know how much time you can save…

The first and main product is online banking. This is the gateway to all of the other products I will talk about in this three part series. Using online banking on a regular basis is an enlightening experience for anyone who sits down and struggles to balance his or her check book once a month after their statement comes in the mail about ten days into the month. You see there is nothing wrong with getting down and dirty with that little piece of paper that contains all of your financial data, (I can see you now with your red pens, highlighters pencils, calculators whatever it takes to get this awful job of balancing done!) however once you are done, you are still about two weeks behind what is actually happening on your account. At that point someone could have stolen your identity and already wiped your money out! But you won’t know it until your debit card declines or you receive a notice in the mail that you do not have sufficient funds in your account to clear the items you have paid. That is unless you are utilizing our FREE and fully functional online banking service.

Here is how it works. When you opened your account we mailed you a five digit Remote Access PIN (I know, yet another thing to remember, but wait because it gets better). With this PIN you can access your account both via phone or Online Banking 24/7. Are you hearing me? That means at 3:00 am when you are watching Bonanza reruns and an infomercial comes on for a juicer that you just have to have, you can check your financial status right then and there before you make that impulse buy (hopefully you will change your mind about the purchase by the time you are done so you don’t have horrible buyers remorse). Why would anyone with a PC and access to the Internet not want this service? You simply take the five digit PIN we mailed you (if you don’t have it don’t worry, call 434-8500 and ask them to mail you a new one, I promise you won’t regret it) and log onto http://www.oterofcu.org/. In the upper right corner you will see OFCU E-Branch, with a place to enter your member number (which is your account number) and your password (which is, you guessed it…) the PIN we mailed you. Once you have entered the required info you will be asked to reenter your original password (which once again is the PIN) and then to make up a password of your own. Anything you want! If you make it up how can you forget it (I told you it would get better)? Once you have agreed to the terms and conditions you will be taken to the glorious land of E-Branch. Here you can look at the balances of all your accounts including your loans. You can make transfers from savings to checking; checking to savings, to your loans for payments, we can even set it up so you can transfer to your kids or grandkids accounts! You can set up auto transfers that happen on the same day each week, month or even year. You can check your account every day if you want, and guess what? You can balance your check book every day too, or once a week, or never! It is up to you because you have real time access to your balances and transactions any time you want them. So what are you waiting for? Try out this great product and you will never go back to balancing your check book once a month with that dreaded paper statement.

Feel free to stop by one of our convenient branches or call an OFCU Member Service Agent today at 434-8500 or 800-376-9000 and they will be glad to assist you with the set up of your online banking. Remember, we are ready when you are. And via online banking that means 24/7…look for part two of this series soon which explains our FREE Bill Payment service.
