Finally, it's vacation time.
South Padre Island here I come! Actually, first I visit my father in Kerrville, Tx, then we head down to South Padre Island. I grew up in Southeast Texas, and as a child, we regularly went to the beach for vacation. Although I don't miss the humidity, I do miss everything else that goes with the beach: making sandcastles, body surfing the waves, checking out all the weird beach people, oh and most of all, the seafood!
When you work as hard as I do (my boss reads this blog), vacation's are something to really look forward to. Driving through South Texas in the summer isn't something I wish upon anyone, but since I haven't been to my dad's house in a while, it's long overdue. Hopefully we have some decent weather, and the heat's not too stifling. Memories of my mom and dad taking all 7 of us kids (yes that's right, 7) to the beach come flooding back. Like the time my younger sister was lying on the beach and a crab washed up on her. I had never seen my sister move so fast. Or when my older sister was in a raft and the tide took her out to the oil rigs. And the time after we saw the movie "Jaws" that we were all too scared to get in the water. Inevitably, on the way home we were always so tired that we would get into a big fight over who got to sleep in the back of the '63 Olds Vista Cruiser station wagon. You know, the one with the wood paneling along the bottom.
Great memories, I just wonder what stories my kids will reminisce over as they grow up.
