BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

It's cold. Probably a little colder for me than most of you, but since I live in Ruidoso, what should I expect, right?

This time of year is the best time of year in my opinion. The trees turning colors, the temperature just about perfect, the wind lays down for us.

Then all of a sudden, winter hits. You wake up one morning and your house is an icebox. You turn the heater on, and you get that funny smell since it hasn't been on for six months, and you actually have to wear socks (slippers) around the house. Your dog goes outside in the morning and wants to come right back in. The grass starts turning brown, and my favorite, the wind starts to blow again. It seems like the wind just stopped blowing. I have to say, the one thing about living here that I don't like is the wind. If I had a choice between 0 degrees and calm, or 40 degrees and blowing hard, I would take the 0 degrees anytime. Whenever I travel around people say, "the wind here blows stronger than any place I have ever been", to which I respond, "have you ever been to the Ruidoso area in the spring"?

Okay, I know what you're thinking. I better quit talking about the wind or we'll get jinxed. I'm praying for snow, because as the old timers on the mountain always tell me, "if we have a wet winter, it usually means the wind lays down in the spring".
Bring on the snow, baby!
