I'm really cheap. My 19 year old daughter calls me the cheapest man on earth. She might be right. I like to use coupons when I go to restaurants. Or even better, those $5 cards the schools sell for fundraisers that gives you .50 cents off a meal at the local fast food place. I feel good when I save money.
Well, it's time to get a new cell phone. Can you believe I actually own a cell phone that can't take a picture. For that matter it doesn't even receive photos. I know what you're thinking. My contract is finally up for renewal, so now I can buy last year's hot cell phone, as I'm too frugal (that's the word I use for cheap) to purchase this year's hot, new cellphone. It hurts to think that some of these new, fancy models are going for $300 each. And that's with instant discounts and mail-in rebates. So, I did my research online and found one for $79 that will take photos, has internet access, is bluetooth capable (I never understood why they call it bluetooth), can text message (another feature I am just beginning to utilize to its full potential), and looks really cool. Then again, I think the old Nike's with the baby blue stripe look cool. I feel good about this purchase. Although I have never paid for a cell phone (I always got the free one that was available at renewal), I think this is a quality product that gives me what I need at an affordable price. I just know that next month something really cooler will come out and people will be laughing at my "antique" phone. That's OK, because I saved money, and got what I needed. I can put that money into my savings here at OFCU. Yes, that savings account here that is feeling very neglected. Now if I could only find a coupon for the cell phone!
I think for a while I will actually have a cooler phone than my daughter. Not for long I'm sure.
If any OFCU members have any great money saving ideas, feel free to email me. I am always open to new ways of being frugal.
Greg
