Go Green with OFCU’s E-Statements (The Final Saga in the Three Part Series of OFCU’s Electronic Services)

So by now most of you should be using both our FREE online banking service and our FREE bill payment service. If you missed out on the first two parts in this journey please take a look at The Three Part Story of Online Banking, Bill Payment and the E-Statement posted May 21, 2008 and The Much Anticipated Story of OFCU Bill Payment (Part II in Our Three Part Journey) posted on June 30, 2008. If you don’t want to read them right now (which I highly recommend because they are two of my greatest literary acts) I will give you the gist of both. You need both services, they are FREE, they save you both time and money, and once you have them you won’t know how you lived without them. So that being said, let’s now talk about E-Statements.

For those of you who don’t know, the E in E-Statements stands for electronic (go figure, considering we are doing a story on electronic services). E-Statements are not only environmentally friendly (no paper, hence that whole go green thing) they are more secure than traditional statements. Let me give you an example. Mary Jo Member receives traditional statements each month. At the end of each month OFCU creates her statement and puts it in the mail. Now a whole lot of people must handle her very personal financial information as it makes it’s way to her in the mail. Once all of those people have been in contact with her information (you say, “But it is in a sealed envelope”, you are correct it is, but what if it gets mutilated in the mail process and it comes open???) and it is finally delivered to her house, it must sit in her mailbox until she retrieves it. Now Mary Jo Member happens to be on vacation, and her statement now sits in her mail box, unlocked for anyone to come by and take for seven whole days. Feel safe to you? It doesn’t to me. People have their mail stolen every day.

Now, Mark Q Member (Mary’s brother) is also a member of OFCU. He hasn’t really given much thought to the whole green thing (no paper, no gas to deliver, no resources used in production) but he has considered the safety issue. So he signed up for E-Statements. Now at the end of every month OFCU creates his statement, sends him an email that very day and he can log into his online banking account and see, print or save his statement to his computer. No waiting and no depending on anyone else to deliver it. Do you feel warm and fuzzy now? No? How about safe, it feels pretty safe to me, much safer than regular paper statements. And more convenient as well, you don’t have to wait five days for it to be delivered (did I mention green?).

All you need to do to sign up and start protecting yourself (and the environment, if you haven’t figured it out yet I am a bit of a granola bar) today is log into your online banking, click on E-Statement, accept the disclosure, and your next statement will be available in online banking. We will even keep twelve months for you. How great is that? No more saving statements or even worrying about shredding them.

Feel free to stop by one of our convenient branches or call an OFCU Member Service Agent today at 434-8500 or 800-376-9000 and they will be glad to assist you with the set up of your E-Statements. Remember, we are ready when you are. And via any of our electronic services that means 24/7…as an added bonus, if you sign up for FREE E-Statements during the months of September, October, or November you will automatically be entered to win a $250 gas card!
P.S. Your mailman might be mad for a while, but don't worry, he'll get over it!
