Mark down this date: March 7, 2008. OFCU enters the blogging world!
The first ever OFCU blog has been created. I, Greg Shaver, VP of Marketing, have been tasked with the incredibly heavy responsibility of writing our first blog. I tried to pass the buck to our VP of Technology, Tamra Burling, but she, as I thought she would, deferred to our second edition. I think she just wanted to check out what I would write, and then she could glean some inside info in order to put together her thoughts. She did write the opening comments that you read when you first get to our blogpage, but that doesn’t count as a blog. We will have an illustrious group of authors for this blog going forward. These names will be released later, but like Tamra, I think some of them are waiting to see how the process works,(some don’t even know that they will be blogging) and what is exactly going to be said in this arena. I can say this, my thesaurus is right next to me, and I am definitely going to make sure I use it so I can impress the masses with my extensive vocabulary. The question will obviously be raised when I use an impressive word: did he really know how to use that word properly in a sentence, or did he access his thesaurus to impress us? Well, the truth is, the thesaurus I am using is very old. There are many new, cool words that aren’t even in this thesaurus, like blog for example. I know what you’re all thinking though, Microsoft Word has a built in thesaurus, so why not use that? The answer to that is: I can’t locate it on my toolbar, and I’m too embarrassed to ask anyone (especially Tamra) where it is. So, I just use the thesaurus that is older than half the people who are members of OFCU. In the end, I probably won’t need it that often, as so far in this blog the only word that might fall in the thesaurus category would be “glean”. And yes, I did know what that word meant, but I did look it up just to make sure I was right. I would wager that Tamra, (OFCU’s aforementioned VP of Technology) who is substantially younger, cooler and sharper than I, has never used the word glean in a sentence, and maybe never will. Now, OFCU, does have someone, who WILL be blogging for us later, that is constantly using big words around the office. Dan Babcock, our Sr. VP of Lending, is well known for writing his employee of the month nominations and interjecting very fancy words in them. Dan is originally from the Northeast part of the US, and that kind of explains some things. His golf swing, though, is unexplainable.
As OFCU moves forward, we look forward to hearing from our members, and most of all, we look forward to our next blog, from Tamra!
